Clinical Outcomes

The Central Wisconsin Anesthesiology, S.C. (CWA) clinical outcomes quality program aligns with the practice’s strategic goals and core values which are to promote a corporate culture of excellence and continuous improvement for providing safe and high quality care to patients. The quality program captures reliable, evidence-based and measurable quality indicators that the practice can use to improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. It also allows us to measure our quality metrics against national benchmarks and to other anesthesia practices of similar scope and size for continuous improvement.

CWA contributes quality data to the Anesthesia Quality Initiative which is a national database of anesthesiology quality measures. We currently collect and report on the following patient clinical outcomes data and use this data to develop strategies to improve the quality of care delivered:

  • Anesthesiology smoking cessation
  • Incidences of delays and cancellations
  • Perioperative cardiac arrest
  • Perioperative mortality rate
  • Short-term pain management
  • Composite procedural safety for central line placement
  • Surgical safety checklist (applicable safety checks completed before induction of anesthesia)
  • Prevention of central venous catheter (CVC) and related bloodstream infections
  • Perioperative temperature management
  • Post-anesthetic transfer of care measure; procedure room to PACU
  • Post-anesthetic transfer of care measure; procedure room to ICU
  • Prevention of post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV)
